Did you know that Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with up to 99% of cases being caused by sun exposure?
It’s a sobering fact, especially considering that melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is one of the most common life-threatening cancers in the 15 to 44 year age group.
But here’s the good news: when skin cancer is detected early and treated properly, it can be cured. In fact, the most common types of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), have a high cure rate when caught early. And even melanoma, when detected before it spreads, has a high chance of being cured.

We offer convenient and cost-effective access to advanced knowledge, diagnostic techniques, and treatments. But remember, you are your best defense against skin cancer. Get into the habit of scanning your skin thoroughly and regularly – it’s a simple step that could save your life.

The key to beating skin cancer is early detection. Remember the Slip, Slop, and Slap campaign from the 1980s. It has now been updated to include Seek and Slide, and it’s easy to remember:
Slip on clothes that cover your arms and legs. Slop on broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen. Reapply every 2 hours. Slap on a broad-brimmed hat or one that covers your face, neck, and ears. Seek shade. Slide on close-fitting sunglasses. If you do find a suspicious spot on your skin, don’t panic. In most cases, skin cancer can be successfully treated with surgery when detected early.
After your skin check, your doctor may recommend follow-up appointments, depending on your risk level. At Health Choice Medical Centre, we have a recall/reminder system in place to make sure you don’t miss your follow-up appointment.
